Furcy

A true story that begins in 1817 on Bourbon Island (Reunion Island). At the death of his mother, the slave Furcy discovers in his personal belongings a letter of liberation that would therefore make him, indirectly, a free man. With the help of an abolitionist prosecutor, Gilbert Boucher, he embarked on a judicial battle against his master Joseph Lory to prove his freedom. This case with multiple twists and turns will last nearly thirty years. He will be imprisoned and then sent into exile to Mauritius for many years. He finally came to plead his case at the Royal Court of Paris in 1846. His victory will make him one of the few slaves in the history of France released by legal means, a few years before the final abolition of slavery.
