H. Nelson Tracey

Writer & Director

H. Nelson Tracey started making movies after receiving a video camera for his 12th birthday and hasn’t stopped in the two decades since. He has directed narrative and documentary short films including “Picture Jasper,” “Conspiracy Party,” and “Spare the Kid.” As an editor and assistant editor, he has worked on projects including “Ski Bum: The Warren Miller Story,” Netflix’s “Eat the Rich” and Hulu’s “Stolen Youth.” In 2019, after screening “Picture Jasper” at the Eastern Oregon Film Festival in La Grande, Oregon, Tracey was invited to help develop the festival’s emerging Filmmaker Residency program to bring production to the rural region. He participated as one of six inaugural participants in the program in May 2021. This location later became the setting for “Breakup Season,” which was shot over three weeks in La Grande in February 2023. Originally from Denver, Colorado, Tracey graduated from Chapman University with a BFA in Film Production. “Breakup Season” is his debut feature film.
